GOD'S "SUDDENLIES" WORTH THE WAIT
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:1-4 KJV.
This would have to be one of my favourite passages from the New Testament. I love the King James Version rendering of this momentous event in the life of the early church leaders and Christ-followers. THIS INDEED WAS THAT, as the apostle Peter explained to the Jews gathered there in Jerusalem from every nation - which was spoken by the prophet Joel some 800 years + BC. Incredible to think that in the Old Testament times, the Holy Spirit came only on certain individuals to inspire them to prophesy or to understand God's will at that time and for particular circumstances - but it was not until Jesus came to earth, lived and died on the cross of Calvary and rose triumphant over the grave and death - that the Holy Spirit was poured out on all believers in Christ who had committed themselves to His Lordship, to not only come upon them - and leave, but to indwell them by His mighty power, making alive the human spirit.
As one of my Facebook friends, John Iuliano, a Pentecostal pastor in Sydney, stated on a recent Devotional video, it is incredible that this promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was foretold over eight hundred years before Christ's appearing on earth - but at God's appointed time, SUDDENLY, He came to fill the lives of the expectant 120 gathered in the Upper Room, and their lives would never ever be the same again.
One of the Fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians chapter 5 is Patience. That it is a fruit of the Spirit indicates that those who exercise the outworking of this fruit in their lives know, from experience what it means to WAIT in EXPECTATION for the fulfilling of God's promises in total trust in the goodness and the timing of the Lord's purposes and provision. As the psalmist says in Psalm 31:14,15 But I trusted in You, O LORD;
I said, "You are my God,"
My times are in Your hand,
deliver me from the hand of
my enemies
and my pursuers.
Psalm 40:1-3 in The Passion Translation says:
I waited and waited and
waited some more,
patiently, knowing God
would come through for me.
Then, at last, he bent
down and listened to
my cry.
He stooped down to lift
me out of danger
from the desolate pit I
was in,
out of the muddy mess
I had fallen into.
Now he's lifted me up
into a firm, secure place
and steadied me while I
walk along his
ascending path.
A new song for a new
day rises up in me
every time I think about
how he breaks through for me!
Ecstatic praise pours
out of my mouth until
everyone hears how
God has set me free.
Many will see his
miracles;
they'll stand in awe of
God and fall in love with
him!
It is true, as Proverbs 13:12 states: Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
But when the desire comes,
it is a tree of life.
I can tell you from experience, that my wife and I know all about Hope Deferred. We have both received a number of significant prophetic words over our lives and for our children as well, some, many years ago - and to be honest, many are yet to be fulfilled.
And YES, there are times when we have become discouraged.
BUT, we have also known, throughout the years - and decades of waiting, an ongoing sense that the Lord has not left us. He is faithful to provide for us. We have known blessing along with adversity - and through it all, we are still trusting Him to "come through" with Breakthrough! IN HIS TIME!
Earlier this week, I was thinking about an aspect of ministry the Lord told me through personal prophecy many years ago, that would help define my ministry for Him. This same word was confirmed by an elder in a church where we were in fellowship ten years ago. As I was thinking about these prophetic words, and feeling somewhat discouraged that they have not been fulfilled in my life to this point, I pulled out of our street to drive the short distance to the shops two days ago, and when I stopped at the traffic lights, my attention was drawn to the car in front of me - an SUV - as I looked at the model name on the back of the car, I was amazed that the name was that of the aspect of ministry the Lord spoke to me about through the gift of prophecy! I know that this was not just a random coincidence, but God wanted me to see this to let me know my "suddenly" in this area is on the way!
In the last book of the Old Testament, the Book of Malachi, we read in chapter 3, verse 1 where the LORD says: I will send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the LORD, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. He is coming, says the LORD of Hosts.
Malachi was most likely written between 440-400 BC, being the last of the Old Testament books and also of the prophetic voices under the Old covenant.
This messenger the Holy Spirit spoke of in Malachi was John the Baptist, who, the Bible says came "to prepare the way of the Lord." He called those who gathered to him in the wilderness of Judea to "repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand." John the Baptist's ministry had been foretold prophetically also by Isaiah some 700 years BC in Isaiah 40:3, where it says of him: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness;
Prepare the way of the Lord;
make His paths straight."
From the time of the prophet Malachi to the time of Christ on earth had been about 400 years. There had been four hundred years of silence, then suddenly, the Lord, through angelic visitations and dreams spoke to Mary, Joseph, and Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist about the miraculous births to take place of John and Jesus, who was the prophesied Messiah.
When John, as an adult began his ministry, he proclaimed of Jesus that: "there is one coming after me who is mightier than me. I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose his sandal-strap. I baptize with water, but He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
He must increase, but I must decrease."
To fulfill Bible prophecy, Jesus came to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. The Bible tells us that, coming up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove. This was the beginning of Christ's powerful and gloriously fruitful earthly ministry for the next three and a half years, where multitudes were turned from darkness to light, the blind and deaf and mute were made to see, hear and speak. The lame were instantly healed and able to walk, the lepers were cleansed, chronic diseases and associated physical symptoms were healed in an instant. And the dead were raised to life again, as in the case of Lazarus, which you can read about in John 11.
Perhaps you who are reading this, are waiting for one of God's "SUDDENLIES." My encouragement to you today would be to: NOT GIVE UP!
CONTINUE TO TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD!
STAND ON HIS PROMISES!
KNOW THAT HE IS FAITHFUL TO PERFORM
HIS WORD!
FILL YOUR MOUTH WITH PRAISE!
TRUST THE LORD OF THE
BREAKTHROUGH TO COME THROUGH
FOR YOU!
THIS COULD BE YOUR DAY FOR A MIRACLE "SUDDENLY."

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE !
"Keep Your Eyes On The Prize" is a folk song that became influential during the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. It is based on the traditional song, "Gospel Plow," also known as "Hold On," "Keep Your Hand On The Plow," and other titles. The lyrics and melodies also vary from artist to artist.
Various versions of the song have been recorded by people such as Pete Seeger, Mahalia Jackson, Odetta, and a more recent version by Christian artist, Sara Groves.
It is the Sara Groves version that I am most familiar with, having been introduced to the song through its airplay on Vision Christian Radio in Australia. Some of the lyrics are as follows:
Paul and Silas bound in jail
Got no money for to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Paul and Silas thought they were lost
The dungeon shook and the chains fell off
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
Freedom's name is mighty sweet
And one day soon we are gonna meet
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
I got my hand on the gospel plow
Won't take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
The song alludes to a couple of passages in the Bible, the first being that of Paul and Silas in prison in Philippi, recorded in Acts 16.
While on the second of Paul's missionary journeys, having been directed by the Holy Spirit not to go to certain places, one night he saw a vision of a man pleading with him to "come over to Macedonia and help us." Immediately, they knew the Lord was leading them to go to that region, and soon they found themselves at a city called Philippi, a major city in that part of Macedonia. They met with some women on a Sabbath, down by the river. When they shared the gospel with them, Lydia, a seller of purple cloth, was baptized and her house, and she invited them to stay with her.
A slave girl who brought much financial gain to her masters through fortune-telling followed Paul and Silas, and proved to be a great source of annoyance to them. Paul cast the demonic spirit from her, thus making her divination ability null and void, which of course greatly angered her masters.
Paul and Silas were thrown into prison, and were fastened in stocks, but they refused to get their eyes off the Lord God.
The Bible tells us that at midnight, they prayed and sang hymns to the Lord, and the prisoners heard them. There was an earthquake, the prison doors of all the prisoners were opened and their chains fell off - BUT amazingly, no one escaped!
The prison guard, awakening from sleep was aghast to see all the prison doors opened - and was about to kill himself with the sword, when Paul called out for him to not harm himself, because the prisoners were still all there in the prison.
The guard then cried out: "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Paul answered him: " Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you and your household, and you will be saved!" His household was saved that night and they were all also baptized! We are not told anything else about all the other prisoners in that prison that night, whose cell doors were opened and whose chains fell off! I would like to believe that many of those also came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ that night also!
Just think, if Paul had had the attitude of Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy fame, when they were imprisoned, and he had turned to Silas and said: "That's another fine mess you've got us into!" - 😒
they would not have experienced the wonderful move of God in that jailhouse that night that saw revival come to the prison guard's household, and probably to that of some of the prisoners also.
In spite of the fact that they had been beaten, and thrown into jail, and had their feet fastened in stocks, at midnight they prayed and sang hymns!!
In the Epistle (letter) of Paul the Apostle to the Philippians, written while chained between Roman guards - from prison in Rome or Ephesus, he wrote these words, of himself: ".....I count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him....I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.....One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3: 8, 13-14 NKJV
In the song "Eyes On The Prize" from which I quoted above, it mentions the gospel plow: I got my hand on the gospel plow
Won't take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on
I am reminded of the verse in Luke 9:62, where Jesus in stating the cost of following Him as a disciple, stated emphatically "No man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
Again, this is an injunction to "keep your eyes on the prize." The image is that of a farmer plowing a field in order to plant a crop. It is imperative that the furrows plowed should be straight consistently. To look back while plowing would most probably cause the furrows to not be straight in the end.
The Christian life is not a holiday. It requires total commitment. 100 percent.
There are a number of references in the Bible to the fact that Christians are in a battle - a never ending battle with Satan, the enemy of our souls. He is a liar, a deceiver, a murderer, whom Jesus refers to in John 10:10 as the thief who "comes to steal, kill and destroy." But the Good News also contained in that verse is that Jesus came to give us life, and that more abundantly."
As Christ-followers, or Christians, it is helpful to always remember that the enemy will do all in his power to distract us from keeping our eyes on Jesus, in order that we might become ineffective in our walk and our spiritual warfare against him.
That is why the writer to Hebrews also encourages us with the great Hall of Faith chapter, in Chapter 11, where we are told: But without faith, it is impossible to please Him [God], for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6, and also why this same writer says in the next chapter:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne. Hebrews 12:1,2 NLT
SO, to you reading this, who is a committed Christian, the clear encouragement of this blog is:
KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE
HOLD ON!

VISION
More Than The
Can See
PART FIVE
RICHARD BERRY
Many examples could be cited from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible of men and women who, through their faith and obedience to the commission the Lord had called them to fulfill - were able to accomplish great exploits for God. They were not people who lived without a clear sense of direction and purpose. They were people of great VISION, some having received literal visions and or dreams from the Lord. Many others knew from the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit the direction in which He was leading them in life, in order that they might fulfill their God-given destinies.
Since the time of Christ, and the subsequent twenty centuries of the Christian Church, there have been many outstanding men and women in so many nations of the world who have been people of vision, who in their lifetimes have impacted their families, their local communities, their villages, towns, cities, and nations for the Kingdom of God.
Probably the vast majority of these have been individual Christians who have devoted themselves wholly to following the Master, the Lord Jesus Christ wherever He would lead them and who have remained largely unknown to the world. They have been faithful servants of the Lord who knew their calling and commission from the Lord and followed that call with simple devotion to the Master. Sadly, there have also been many Christians throughout the Christian era who, though having a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, have never pushed through to discover and fulfill the vision that God has or had for their lives - that they might make an impact for the Kingdom of God in their lifetimes.
Some of you who are reading this would know that I have been involved in Christian broadcasting for some years in the past, in a full time capacity from 1981 to the early 90's, firstly with Radio Rhema in Christchurch, New Zealand, and then from 1988 to 1991 at Launceston's WAY FM in Tasmania.
In relation to this blog theme of Vision, I would like to highlight one man whose tenacious dedication to follow the vision he received from the Lord resulted in a worldwide media ministry, starting from primitive beginnings in a makeshift studio in his garage at his Christchurch home. The man's name was Richard (Dick) Berry.
In 1961, at the age of twenty, he was miraculously healed of a back injury. He was already a Christian, but this healing prompted Richard Berry to an even greater commitment to God, and in gratitude to the Lord, he offered himself to serve the Lord in whatever way he could.
It was then that he received a clear direction (vision) from the Lord to establish Christian radio in New Zealand, dedicating his life to that one consuming goal.
In those days, there was no such thing as private radio. On the contrary, there was strict government restriction on any form of private broadcasting with no real possibility of private groups gaining broadcasting licences.
In 1966, after several unsuccessful attempts by a private radio consortium to have the courts approve a private radio licence for Auckland, New Zealand's largest city - they brazenly fitted out a ship called the Tiri with radio broadcasting equipment and a transmitter, and commenced broadcasting from outside the three-mile maritime limit in waters off New Zealand in the Hauraki Gulf. The station was called Radio Hauraki. In time, they were granted a licence and a land-based station was then located in Auckland - and continues to this day.
With the commencement of privately owned and operated commercial radio stations in New Zealand, this no doubt offered a glimmer of hope for those praying and believing for an open door for Christian radio - but there were still many hurdles to cross before this would become a permanent reality in "The Land of the Long White Cloud."
Although very few others were able to share his vision or enthusiasm and excitement for it, Dick Berry began to seek the Lord for ways he could implement his plans, and that is when the first studio was built in his own garage. A foundation of prayer was laid in these early years, which has characterized the ministry throughout its history. This commitment to prayer carried the vision through many years of struggles, disappointments and heartaches....and was the key to ultimate victory.
In 1968, a church property was purchased in Glenfield Crescent, in Mairehau, a suburb of Christchurch, from which the first one day broadcast was held on the 23rd November, 1974 - a day which Richard Berry looked back on as one of the most significant and memorable of his life.
On the 11th November, 1978, an even greater event took place, as Radio Rhema began broadcasting on a full time basis.
This was a milestone, not only for Christchurch and New Zealand, but also throughout the British Commonwealth. It was a tribute to the extraordinary faith, determination and courage of one man, who dared to take God at His word, and who had fought almost single-handedly against incredible odds to pursue the mission and the vision to which God had called him.
Dudley Scantlebury, the first station manager,
outside the Glenfield Crescent
studios in Christchurch
In the forty two years since Radio Rhema began broadcasting permanently with the call sign 3XG, Christchurch, not only has the radio ministry expanded to cover all of New Zealand on three networks; the Rhema Broadcasting Group also have a television station called Shine TV, as well as proclaiming the Gospel message and teaching through the internet, smart phone apps and printed publications. Internationally, as the umbrella organisation, UCB (United Christian Broadcasters), they have, in Australia an ever expanding radio network, called Vision Christian Radio with some 730 cities, towns and smaller communities in every state and territory being able to receive and broadcast programming 24/7 from studios based in Brisbane, Queensland. AND THE END IS NOT YET! The continuing vision for Vision Christian Radio is: Christian Radio for every Australian.
UCB International is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand with broadcasting affiliates in over twenty five countries. It also publishes and distributes the popular daily devotional called "The Word For Today," written by Bob and Debbie Gass.
ALL THIS from one man who dared to believe the vision he had of establishing Christian radio in New Zealand, was against seemingly insurmountable odds, with time and patient faith, divinely possible.
Did Richard Berry ever receive a supernatural vision from the Lord played out before his eyes like a video or movie presentation? Not that I know of, but he certainly had a clear vision inspired by the Holy Spirit of fighting the good fight of faith to see Christian media become a reality in New Zealand and beyond.
Personal tragedy struck when at the age of 44, he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, and sadly subsequently lost his battle with the disease at the young age of 47, in 1988 - but the ministry has grown exponentially since then, for many years under the leadership of Hal Short, who was a very close ministry executive associate of Richard Berry.
The above is but yet another example of many men and women whose lives have impacted many by their faith and unwavering commitment to see birthed fruitful endeavours for the Kingdom of God, touching many lives with the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Postnote: Much of the information above concerning Richard Berry was gleaned from a special tribute edition of Rhema's "Frequency" magazine, Issue No. 153 (October 1988), following his death.

PART FOUR
REINHARD BONNKE
Late last year, Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke died at the age of 79. It is estimated that during the course of his ministry, much of which, was holding mass evangelism campaigns in Africa - 79 million people made commitments to follow Christ. These were recorded decisions for Christ - that, as someone has pointed out is one million people saved for every year of his life.
Not to take away anything from the ministry of Billy Graham, as he was without a doubt a Godly man, and a great ambassador for Jesus - it is claimed around three million were saved under his ministry, although he did preach to hundreds of millions of people in crusades and through mass media.
The ministry of Reinhard Bonnke also was accompanied by outstanding miracles, healings, deliverance from demons and even people raised to life from the dead.
Reinhard Bonnke was born in 1940 in East Prussia, Germany. His father was a pastor. Reinhard committed his life to follow Christ at the age of nine. Very soon after, he began to proclaim his intention to be a preacher and missionary to Africa. And that dream was wonderfully fulfilled. He attended the Bible College of Wales in Swansea led by Samuel Rees Howells, who was known as a man whose prayers were answered. Reinhard Bonnke prayed a prayer: "Lord, I also want to be a man of faith. I want to see your way of providing for needs."
.......I, being in the way, the Lord led me....Genesis 24:27After college, Bonnke took up a pastorate in Hamburg, Germany. On the journey from the college to Germany, he had a free day and chose to spend it sight-seeingin London. He was able to buy a bus pass that would enable him to travel all around the city and suburbs. He spent several hours in the bus going from one area of the city to another, not at all knowing where he was. At one point, he found himself in a suburb, and decided to get out and stretch his legs and go for a walk. As he walked along a particular street, he suddenly saw a name plate outside a house which read: GEORGE JEFFREYS. Immediately he thought of George Jeffreys, a great man of God who had brought the message of God's healing and miracle working power to Britain. He had read his books, and heard about his ministry while in Bible college. BUT, he thought, there must be hundreds of Jeffreys in Britain, and George was also a common English name. The still small voice of the Holy Spirit spoke to Reinhard and said: "You have plenty of time. Ring the door bell and ask if this is the home of George Jeffreys, the evangelist."
He rang the door bell. A burly looking woman, who "filled the door frame" opened the door. Upon asking if this was the home of the healing evangelist, George Jeffreys, she said Yes, but when asked if he could see him, the lady said an emphatic "NO!" Then Reinhard heard a deep voice from within" "Let him come in!"When Reinhard explained who he was, that he had just finished Bible college training, and that he believed God had called him to preach in Africa, Jeffreys kneeled on the floor, pulling Reinhard down with him, and laid hands on him, praying for God's glory to fill him.Reinhard left the home thirty minutes later, knowing this had been an appointment arranged by the Holy Spirit. Arriving home in Hamburg, Germany by train the next day, his father met him at the station. He knew nothing of Reinhard's meeting with George Jeffreys, but his father informed him that overnight he had heard the news that George Jeffreys had died. Reinhard then knew the mantle, the anointing that was on Jeffreys had been passed on to him. See 2 Kings 1-2. (Elijah and Elisha)
A RECURRING DREAMHe pastored a church in Hamburg for seven years, then the Lord led him, his wife Anni, with their two small children to the small kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa. The ministry was nominally successful, and then, the Lord gave Reinhard Bonnke a recurring dream. In it, he saw the entire continent of Africa covered in the blood of Jesus and heard a voice declare: " AFRICA SHALL BE SAVED!" That was his battle cry from that time onwards. From small beginnings, the ministry grew. He held tent crusades, eventually buying a tent which could seat 34,000 people. After this tent was destroyed in a terrible storm, the ministry decided to hold open air campaigns, which then began to attract not tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands to hear the Good News of the Gospel - with signs following! In 2017, when Reinhard gave a farewell message to Africa in Nigeria, he preached to 1.7 million people gathered in the open to hear this great General of the faith.Reinhard Bonnke founded his ministry, Christ for All Nations (CfaN) which continues today under the dynamic leadership of American evangelist, Daniel Kolenda. Reinhard Bonnke passed the mantle to Daniel about a decade ago, and in that time, he also has seen some twenty million people commit their lives to following Jesus, and, like Reinhard has signs following his ministry - healings and deliverance and miracles! GOD IS FAITHFUL TO PERFORM HIS WORD!
The God of Reinhard Bonnke and Daniel Kolenda, and Billy Graham is the God of miracles. You can know this wonderful God of the Bible, the Saviour of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, the Bible states in Hebrews 13:8 is the same yesterday, today and forever. Jesus is still healing the sick and restoring broken lives today as He did when He was on earth as a man. If you would like to know how you can become a Christian, and know the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in your life, a good starting point I can suggest is: www.vision.org.au Click on the "Grow your faith" tab at the top of the page, then from the dropdown menu, click on "Looking for God?" Reinhard Bonnke founded his ministry, Christ for All Nations (CfaN) which continues today under the dynamic leadership of American evangelist, Daniel Kolenda.
If you would like to know how you can become a Christian, and know the transforming power of the Holy Spirit in your life, a good starting point I can suggest is: www.vision.org.au Click on the "Grow your faith" tab at the top of the page, then from the dropdown menu, click on "Looking for God?"
